Polk County Vehicular Manslaughter Lawyer

Felony Charges

Vehicular manslaughter covers several types of crimes including:

  • DUI/Manslaughter - A second degree felony
  • DUI Manslaughter/Leaving the Scene - Charged when a person knew or should have known that an accident happened and they did not give aid. It is a first degree felony
  • Vehicular Homicide - A second degree felony
  • Vehicular Homicide - Applies when a person commits vehicular homicide and leaves the scene. It is a first degree felony

With homicide charges, the prosecution must show that your actions were done with reckless disregard for the safety of others or, in other words, that you knew what you were doing was dangerous but did it anyway. Each of these DUI offenses carries with it stiff fines and prison sentences which can alter the course of you and your family's life for many years to come.

I am William D. Sites, Attorney at Law and I have been practicing criminal defense for 22 years. As an experienced trial attorney, I know the prosecutors and judges who will likely take on your case. I work hard to give specialized service to every individual who walks through my door as I know how important the outcome of your case is. Manslaughter charges are prosecuted severely and it is crucial to have a proven Polk County criminal defense attorney by your side to successfully navigate through our criminal justice system.

Penalties for Vehicular Manslaughter

If you are convicted of a DUI manslaughter charge you will have to pay a fine of not more than $10,000 and/or a 15-year prison term. For a DUI manslaughter offense in which leaving the scene is involved, the fine is not more than $10,000 and/or 30 years imprisonment. The same penalties apply for vehicular manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter/leaving the scene.

With each of these offenses your license will be revoked for a 3 year period and you must complete DUI school or an advanced driver improvement course in order to have your license reinstated.

If you are facing tough DUI charges, do not trust your future to a lawyer who is unproven at trial. Many defenses exist in a DUI case that a seasoned lawyer can bring to light, towards the goal of securing the most positive result possible in your case.
